EPA’s Administrator has established seven “themes” to guide the agency’s activities

On September 3, 2013, EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy sent an agency-wide email setting forth her goals as administrator, with seven “themes” that will be the focus of her tenure. The seven themes are: working with communities, toxics and chemical safety, protecting water, cutting greenhouse gas emissions and improving air quality, launching a “new era” of state and local partnerships, working toward a sustainable future, and “embracing EPA as a high performing organization.” In general, these priorities track those articulated by former administrator Lisa Jackson. However, McCarthy’s list adds a focus on “Launching a New Era of State, Tribal and Local Partnerships,” and “Embracing EPA as a High Performing Organization,” and omits Jackson’s focus on cleanup of hazardous waste sites.
